As you mightve heard I recently got a steamdeck! One of them newfangled OLED sorts.

It's quite fun. Much good for game playing, especially wii and wii u items, and also celeste. The screen looks great! The blacks
are like.. actually black. It's insane.

Something fun I recently learned is a new setting in the dolphin wii emulator. Normally you'd just render the games at whatever's closest to your screen's resolution and scale it smoothly to fit, that results in a much higher-res rendering of the game. The new option is a different scaling option, instead of smoothing the pixels out it keeps them perfectly sharp even if your screen isnt a perfect multiple of the original resolution! This means that I can render the wii and gamecube games at original resolution (480p) and get those nice crispy pixels for maximum nostalgia. I REALLY like how not blurry it is and I very much like how all of the stuff looks all pixel-ey.

Now the sad stuff :((.

So, I nearly exclusively use headphones. The idea of playing noise out loud seems completely barbaric to me. And I like using my wired headphones since the sound quality is way better and there's 0 latency, waaay better than bluetooth.

Because of that, I was very saddened to hear the constant buzz that has been reported by others on OLED models. In games and even
in the menu there's a constant static that plays through the headphone jack, it's very annoying and sometimes distracting during gameplay.

Because of this I've started the process to get it fixed by Valve, which will mean factory resetting the deck, waiting a week or
so, and then setting up all of my games and emulators again :[.

I don't see how valve missed such a glaring error, the buzzing is nearly constanat and audible through any remotely sensitive headphones. You'd think they would test the audio jack, like at least once.


Very sad :[. But other than that the deck's been great!
