• getting back slowly

From Meverett to All on Wed Aug 14 11:10:52 2024
    what's up dog(s)!

i am absolutely on a roll for posting today since work is boring, but that's not important.

what is important is that i'm actually (kinda) doing game stuff! ooooooo!

to go over a few of the things that have changed and what i've been working on:

    - i've switching my plans from programming the game in python to using godot engine (version 4). i mainly did this because i got fed up with python, and i've really been enjoying the features in godot.
    - i restarted progress on the game i'm making to learn the basics of my program of choice, and to be specific, i have restarted 3 full times. the first few times was because things broke and i couldn't figure out how to fix it, so i went ahead and restarted, then it happend again, and then i was having issues with the next thing.
    - i've been (slowly) trying to create a github repository for my game's files so that i can work on it from my laptop and my desktop computers without something like a flash drive.

i was doing pretty good with working on it until i got slightly too tired and slightly too busy and then stopped, but i'll try to get the repository set up during my week off.

godot engine has been really great though. a bit complicated with all of the menus and the whole scenes thing, but that's what tutorials and documentation is for, yknow?

my current plan is the same as before, create a platformer to learn how to use godot and then move on to starting the actual game i intend to make.

the platformer had been going somewhat okay, i found a plugin that makes puting terrain into scenes easier, which has been a huge help. godot has also made using sprites a lot easier since it has a built in animation feature and is really simple when it comes to using spritesheets.

for the actual game, i'd started putting a little bit more thought into stuff i hadn't before like the backgrounds. my current plan is to start by using a free tilemap i found online that looks alright, and i'll switch over to one that she makes when she gets around to it.

i know she has big plans for the scenery and stuff, and to be fair, it isn't really that important to have while i sort out the mechanics, but it's still nice to be able to switch around and mess with other stuff while i'm working.

but yeah, i'm trying to get back into it. might get stalled out with all the stuff i have to deal with this fall, like my name change and fighting the school and also doing all the school classes, but we'll just have to see.

    cheers,
