sup
i started writing this back after the solcar posts to talk about my computer thingies. and also, oh my gosh a third post in one day??? crazy.
after the second day of racing, we stopped using the motor controller software, so i had the go ahead to do stuff with my laptop.
i installed the dinosaur linux with assistance from tar, and i've really been enjoying it so far.
we had a minor issue with their file server, namely, i backed up my valued laptop files to their file server, then all of my files got deleted, so that was pretty saddening, but then i found a random flashdrive with a backup of my valued laptop files, so it was all good!
but yeah, fedinosaur is really great. i deleted all the junk off my laptop, which did include my windows (which i actually needed because i need autocad, which doesn't have a linux build).
i got rid of all of the useless files like a bunch of cyber patriot images and the random comp sci programs.
so far, i have like 5 programs installed, which is spotify, obsidian, discord, steam, and minecraft.
the prism launcher is pretty cool, it makes adding mods pretty easy so i really appreciate it compared to the windows launcher.
i also went and reset all of my passwords/migrated my email to a new one most of the way. i don't know how to deal with youtube accounts, but that's for another time.
once i got home from texas, i went and set up my desktop computer with the fedinosaur os (project bluefin's fedora 39) too, deleting windows. i won't ever actually use it even if i did decide to dual boot on it.
speaking of dual booting, i do need to partition my laptop to have windows and fedinosaur, but i dunno how to do that, so i'll get around to it too.
i set up the fedora on my desktop, and i actually had perfect timing, because i think during the time that i was switching over, the microsoft outage happened because of a security update from crowdstrike.
i talked a good bit about the laptop i'm referring to in this post back in "soooooooooo" or however many o's it was, but more has happened!
it is still being repaired, but i managed to convince my mother to buy it back from me so i could get a different laptop. i got a framework, which is what tar used because they converted me, and i like it.
there's pros and cons, of course. i like how light it is and the customization aspects, both in appearance and what stuff goes in it. it's also just a neat computer. however, the battery drain is terrible on it. i've got an 11th gen intel processor, so if i don't fully power off my computer when i'm not using it, it keeps draining and dies. pretty inconvenient.
eventually, i will actually be able to get a different motherboard which is deplete my battery less, but the soonest that would happen would be this following summer. prolly later. who knows? not me.
i enjoy the fact my trackpad actually works and clicks, pretty good keyboard, and just overall a nice laptop.
i'm planning on buying a new bezel for the laptop later this year. it's about $50, but it's light purple and quite pretty. i got usb-c expansion cards that were light purple too, and it's cute. i hope they release more expansion cards in the colored variety.
that's all for now though. i'll update if more laptop stuff happens with it, like if i get that bezel or something else neat.
thanks for reading
