This board will contain all of the official standing rules on GlitchNet. Many will be in this post, but more may be in sub-posts or on board specific posts and could be updated at any time.

Update Tracking:
We recommened you keep your message notifications enabled for the sister thread "RuleChanges" which will track all modifications/additions/deletions to our global rule board, that way you don't have to look through the entire thread every day for new changes.

Note: Subops who run board specific rules must file rule change requests to the sysop team for changes to also be tracked in RuleChanges

Violations:
Users who violate any of the rules on this thread may be subject to warnings, mutings, kickings, bannings, blacklisting, or complete account takedowns depending on the severity of the actions. All users can report all other users for violation of GlitchNet rules.

Take note of the GlitchNet hierarchy.

System Owners can: Take any action necessary to silence a potential threat to GlitchNet

System Operators can: Take any action short of a complete account takedown(Without System Owner approval) to silence a potential threat to GlitchNet

Moderators can: Warn, kick and ban users in violation of server rules(Must file a report to the Sysop team after the fact)

Subboard Operators can: Warn, kick, and ban users from their controlled Subboards. They can also delete or modify offending content on their boards, and can take action based on board specific rules.

Users can: Report offending content/users to the most applicable privileged users.

Note: Moderators who find board content in violation of a global rule, but lack access privileges should request to a subboard operator to remove the offending content/user. Moderators are primarily for the jurisdiction of non-board content. Non-compliant subops.

Note: Subops should never try to regulate outside of their jurisdiction. In all cases outside of their boards, they count as regular users.

Rules:

1. Don't be a jerk. This might include being discriminatory, inflammtory, or really annoying.

2. All users on this server must provide correct personal information upon joining up. It is ok to shorten your IRL name or to generalize your location to a city/state/country/planet. However, your age must be set correctly for channel access. All information tied to your account must still be technically factual. If you failed to provide adequate information on signup, please contact a sysop for an information request change. Some aspects of your updated information may require verification.

3. This server operates on an age range of 13+. All content on this server must be appropriate for those as young as 13. Content that is more mature should be only posted in age-restricted channels. Users should not access content outside of their correct age range.

4. Content levels on this server are capped to Mature levels. If it's Not Safe For Work, it's Not Safe For GlitchNet. I don't want anything that might lead to a government investigation of this server. This ban includes graphic violence, pornography, nudity, slurs, etc. If you want to see wacko stuff like that, go to Reddit you creep.

5. Do not mock/annoy privileged users for doing their jobs. If you have a problem with how they or I run the server, take it straight to a system operator, or go somewhere else.

6. Do not troll, spam, or spread toxicity on GlitchNet or any other BBS server. You represent our community when you travel the BBS internet and people who only seek to defame us will not be tolerated.

7. This server is English speaking, in case you haven't noticed. Please keep all areas of this server English speaking, and make requests to sysops for Non-English areas if you want them.

8. Swearing is for the most part permitted, but excessive profanity, and especially Mature levels of speech outside of age-restricted zones are prone to warning or punishment.

9. GlitchNet provides areas for file uploading/downloading. Provided file content must be released and distributed with either explicit permission to distribute the content or provided distribution licenses to the content. Piracy and all communication about it will not be tolerated.

10. PII (Personally Identifiable Information) must be kept confidential on GlitchNet. This information is kept by sysops soley for record-keeping purposes. Please be careful when sharing your own PII on GlitchNet and NEVER share the PII of others. PII includes IRL names, phone numbers, birthdays, addressess, meeting locations, identifiable images, social security numbers, email addresses, etc.

11. Use channels for the intended purpose. If you mistakenly post the wrong content to a channel, it's OK. Just let a privileged user know, and ask them politely to move it for you. Repeated or unreported offenses may be punishable. Some special cases can be made on a need by need basis.

12. Advertising of any kind is prohibited. GlitchNet promises to keep up its end of the deal by never placing intrusive ads on its services.

13. Chain posts are OK. However, if a communication chain gets too long, consider asking for a dedicated sub-board for it.

14. Do not attempt to raise your privilege on the server without the consent of the sysop team. This may include begging for privileges or attempted account cracking. Any attempt at this is a serious offense.

15. Keep usernames to a reasonable length. If possible, invent a shorthand of your username that you can also go by. I.e. Meverett -> Mev, Greenturtle537 -> Green OR Turtle.

16. Respect others and their opinions. Drama is not acceptable, and it's important to keep discussions civil and friendly.

17. Users are permitted one account per soul. A second account may be approved for roleplaying purposes. Users in violation of this rule may be prone to account takedown. Users may not have more than one soul.

18. Rules may be changed at any time. Users MAY BE protected from offenses before a notice or rule change was made about it.
