Ahoy dear users,
Many of you must know our resident DOORS dev here on GlitchNet, the infamous Tartarus, creator of our favorite pastime, Tarsweeper. After much bugging, Tar has graciously agreed to become Tarsweeper's official maintainer. We have already linked up Tarsweeper to a remote git repository that our machine will process. Now tar doesn't have to nagivate our FTP server for updating the game anymore. To protect our users, only Tar may submit changes to the Tarsweeper main branch and pull down new changes. However, we recognize a growing community of users who want to work on Tarsweeper. As an intermediary design, the Sysop team has added a new External Programs directory, Testing. Currently, it has two programs, Testsweeper and Testsweeper Update. Anyone may run Testsweeper and play it just like they would Tarsweeper, free of cost.
Testsweeper is more complex. First of all, this program costs 10,000 of a user's daily 10M credits on this BBS. This means that this command can only be run a maximum of 1,000 times in a day. This is a generous limit. You are using MY cpu and MY bandwidth. I will decrease this to 10 times a day if people spam it. Next, it is linked to pull any new changes from the testing branch of upstream Tarsweeper on GitHub. If you'd like to become an intermediary developer, please contact Tar for proper authentication on there GitHub project. By running this command, you can update our copy of Testsweeper and debug your changes on real Synchronet tech without having to test up a testing BBS of your own. Once you have finished work on your NEW branch (Do not work on testing), you can open a PR for Tar and potentially Greenturtle537 to review. Once a FINISHED feature is moved into Tarsweeper Main, either Tar or myself will update our official distribution.
Tarsweeper is now licensed under the MIT copyleft. Tar assumes original copyright of the software, all uses are permitted. Credit must be given by packaging this original license with all copies and derivatives. Thank you for your cooperation.
In smaller news, I fixed my website tracker for Meverett's website. Meverett: If you ever want a hard backup of your website, just head into the TOOLS area of EXTERNAL PROGRAMS and run that updater command. It's currently mislabeled, as it actually updates w.glitchtech.top now.
Happy development,
